The Sunday Telegraph Magazine

'Regardless of how she might like to be portrayed, there is no doubt that Selina Blow is grand, and that her manner is, indeed, endearingly eccentric. She refers to the cottage as her "private kingdom" and her retreat from the frightening business of fashion. In London, during the week, Selina Bow plays the successful designer about town, nipping and tucking and flattering the likes of Stella Tennant, Lucy Ferry and Lady Menuhin in her smart Belgravia Salon. Tender years and a lack of training haven't stopped her gaining a rapid reputation in the fashion world- although it is a reputation that has been built as much on her personality as on her trademark Nehru and pirate jackets in jewel-bright Silks and velvet. Selina Blow, it has to be said, does come from a long line of eccentrics. Her grandfather, Detmar Blow, was an architect who built Hilles, the large Arts and Craft house in which she grew up. Her mother, a Sri Lankan beauty names Helga Elena Brunhilda De Silva, who was described by a gossip columnist as an exotic orchid among the British Buttercups".

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH WEEKEND

MY MODEL SCOTTIES

"Maud and Myrtle, a pair of Scotties are an inspiration to their owner, fashion designer Selina Blow. I can translate them into almost any image in my mind. They could for instance be two Victorian spinster aunts, or with their beards they can look like the Victorian explorer, Livingstone. I adore my dogs and anything which you enjoy will find its way naturally into your work."

'THE LAUNCH OF SELINA BLOW'S READY-TO-WEAR MENSWEAR COLLECTION'

"Despite the petrol crisis, an assortment of dapper folk and their children turned up to admire the leather - trimmed tweed and exquisite tailoring. Philip Treacy's dog Mr. Pig definitely hogged the limelight, leaping into the master's arms whenever a camera came close. He also made lots of new friends, who fed him the poilane shortbread biscuit canapés, which made a surprisingly good, if slightly curious, accompaniment to the Moet & Chandon." Summer Litchfield, Tatler 1999

HARPERS & QUEEN

"SELINA BLOW IN HER LONDON SHOP WITH HUSBAND CHARLES. A PRIVATE GP."

"Fashion designer Selina Blow, 33, opened her London boutique in 1994 with handbag queen Lulu Guinness. 'My interest in clothes started very young. I spent most of my childhood at Hilles, my family's Gloucestershire estate, with these extraordinary parents. My father was an English historian and my mother is Sri Lankan, a great society beauty in her youth and still an enormously impressive women. There were times when I was very lonely and bored but I also had to use my imagination and I'm grateful for that. I was a shy child, and I think I like to dress up because its self-protection.
